Coronado

Welcome to Coronado!  Coronado is pseudo island along the coast. It is home to white sand beaches, expensive homes and one cannot forget the Famous Hotel Del Coronado.
That is the Hotel Del off in the distance.  I came out to Coronado last week and this week.  the only difference was last week, we were having some "june gloom" so it was a bit overcast.
However when it's gloomy (and a weekday) this is your view.  Not a soul in sight. Today was another story.  and when there are a lot of people, the one thing you will not find are birds everywhere, but that's ok.  I can still enjoy the beauty.

unfortunately this gate is stretched across the beach and water, since this area belongs to the US Navy, so it was time to turn around.

this little gull managed to snatch a little fish even though there were quite a few people along the shore.

i mentioned the expensive homes.  Well some of them are so beautiful i took a few pictures of some of my favs.  Just a note, ALL of these houses face the beach (about 100 feet away)

(this is the view most of these houses have)

is the hotel??  No, that's a house....

while all these homes are absolutely gorgeous they all lack one thing....peace and quiet.  there is no way to live this close to the beach and not have the noise and traffic that comes with it.  But i certainly don't think that's a bad thing, just for me, i like the quiet.

as i headed home, i drove toward the Coronado Bridge and i was driving through the residential streets and they were beautiful, tree lined, gorgeous yards and homes and then i drove by this and had to stop:

it was a huge version of a Hobbit House. too cute!

i hoppd on the Bridge and headed home. The beach is not usually my go to place in the summer months (too many people) but considering Coronado is very close to my house, i figure i will be going more often.

Lindo Lake Goslings

We were blessed with the arrival of little Jasper on April 30th.  While his mama and Papa (Fiore and Fritz) has six eggs total, this little fluff ball was the miracle baby:

yes that is a little bit of down on his beak.  He had just left the nest and was trying to find his footing.
he soon got tired and needed a nap

then he was up again.

and as tired as he was, he still needed to see all the wonders around him, what better way to observe than on mama's back?

i don't think Jasper realized he was eating out of my hand, he was just following what his papa did.

                                                          ***  Fresh from the nest***

*** Three Weeks Old ***

Next to arrive on the scene were the quads.  These little beauties are the offspring of Theodore and Lucy.  they are both first time parents and are still in the process of learning.

Unfortunately in the first week, two of the goslings disappeared.  there are a lot of predators for the parents to deal with and yes it is nature, but it's still sad to one day have four, then three and then two.

These are the little survivors, Kikki (out front) and Archie

Then one day out of nowhere two more babies appeared.  Their parents, Cosmo and Olivia were so well hidden, i didn't even know they were nesting.
This is little Spencer and Gus.

Being a baby is really hard work.

all the families seem to be cohabiting quite well, at certain parts of the day they're all together and that part of the park is considered the "nursery".
These little goslings grow faster than a weed and here are the little babies from this week:

Kikki and Archie

Spencer and Gus

And little Jasper

Sooner rather than later, the babies will look just like their parents.  they won't have their honks yet, just the baby squeaks and it's then that i'll have to find distinguishing marks to be able to tell them apart.  But I may also have to do some name changing, after all they all have boys' names, odds are they aren't all boys.
